Cindy Crawford

RECRUITMENT Asked to become the Co-Ed of the Week for a local college newspaper. Later got a job as a model for a hairstyling demonstration being sponsored by Clairol. This allowed her to join a small agency and do local modeling jobs. After her agency was bought by Elite, she was entered into Elite's Look of the Year contest. The year was 1982 and Cindy was 17. She didn't win, mainly because she wanted to finish her schooling. Soon after, she was in demand both in New York and in Europe.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION Probably the single most widely recognized supermodel. The second of three girls, her family had a blue-collar background. A brother, Jeff, died at the age of three of leukemia. A very driven student, Cindy was a straight-A student who fantasized about becoming the first female president. She was accepted to Northwestern University on a chemical engineering scholarship after graduating her high school as its valedictorian. During her early years of modeling, she was encouraged to have her mole removed, and luckily she resisted. Married the actor Richard Gere in 1991 at a small church in Las Vegas. This spur-of-the-moment decision prompted them to use chewing gum wrappers as their wedding bands. They divorced in 1994. She was involved with Val Kilmer, but now is seeing boyfriend Rande Gerber. Reason most likely is because Cindy wants to have a baby. This is why her marriage with Richard Gere and her relationship with Val Kilmer ended. She owns her own company called Crawdaddy Inc. which is preparing her for her eventual post-modeling days. Look for more films and her own line of cosmetics in the near future. Instead of investing in the Fashion Cafe chain of restaurants, Cindy is a co-owner of Planet Hollywood.
